NEWS !!! SEX SHOP OPENS IN MECCA!

When you think of the holy Muslim city of Mecca, you tend to think of the pilgrimage that many undertake to visit this magnificent place and the holy and religious ties that it has.  And what you don't think is a sex toy store.

All of this could change, as an entrepreneur plans to open a sex shop in one of the holiest cities in the world ... and we imagine it won't go too well.

  Something shocking

Moroccan-Dutch entrepreneur Abdelaziz Aouragh hopes to open a store in Mecca, expanding the items you can currently buy at his popular online sex shop.

We can't see this end well, but Aouragh seems to have high hopes that it will work.  He said the shops would not have pornography or sex toys and would instead focus on "products that increase the desire between men and women".

Given that he told an Arab news channel that he is currently following a partnership with German sex toy manufacturer Beate Uhse, we are not sure if we believe him.

In any case, this will totally shock those living in Mecca and the surrounding areas.

  A new side of religion

Of course, taking a look at his websites shows that he might be telling the truth after all.  On the site you can find many different candles, as well as massage oils and romantic perfumes.

There are even some tablets that are said to "enhance the sexual experience" that you can buy to make time with your partner more erotic and sensual.

It is important for Aouragh to show another side to the Islamic people.  "It is not true that Muslim women are only seen in the kitchen and only seen wearing the veil.  We should also highlight love.  "

He goes on to explain that this new business in Mecca "would promote a positive image of how Muslims should treat women in general."

Although Aouragh said the store is fully Shariah-compliant and also sought the advice of a Saudi cleric who fully supports the plan, it is still a little worrying for many to hope to effectively open a sex shop in the city.

Saudi Arabia is known for being a very conservative country.  For starters, women are forbidden to drive and even leave the house without their husbands or male relatives escorting them.

They are very conservative and modest people, and the thought of opening a sex shop in their city will anger many.

Things may not end well for Mr Aouragh.  For example, in 2012 a sex shop was opened in the Moroccan city of Casablanca.  Shortly afterwards, the store was closed.  Its owner faced a $ 800 fine and eight months in prison.

  Hope for the future?

That being said, there is hope for the future.  In 2012, King Abdullah reversed the rules that meant that lingerie stores could not hire women and instead forbade them from hiring men.  This created more equal opportunities for women and allowed them to feel more comfortable when shopping for their lace lingerie.

This move has affected thousands of stores and is definitely a step in the right direction!

The Telegraph reported in 2000 that the Ann Summers sex shop had been given permission to open stores in the Middle East, and of the 22 it allowed to open, one was in Mecca.

It is unclear what happened after that, as the store was originally set to open in the Mecca International Mall, but this leads us to believe that sex is no longer seen as the great taboo it once was.

  A bold move

Honestly, setting up a sex shop in a holy city like Mecca is a bold move.  While Aouragh insists that the store not store items that could easily offend, such as sex toys and pornography, people may still disagree with the move.

It is an extremely controversial one and it is a story that we intend to find out more about in the future.

What do you think about Mr Aouragh's idea to open a sex shop in Mecca?  Is a Saudi sex shop such a good idea or should it be a little more respectful of the country and its people?
